On Campus
If a student organization wishes to host an event with alcohol on-campus, below are the steps they must follow.
Host liquor liability insurance is required for student organizations to host events with alcohol, and you will be required to provide a copy to the office of Student Involvement prior to event approval.
All student organizations hosting an event with alcohol must review, understand, and abide by all Code of Student Responsibility Policies for Alcohol.
Student Organization cannot use SAFB or CAFB funds for any event where alcohol will be present. If the event has been approved for SAFB or CAFB, the event will be denied. If the event was approved prior to the SAFB or CAFB request, the funding request will be denied.
If a student organization wishes to host an event with alcohol on-campus, below are the steps they must follow.
4 weeks prior to the event, the student organization must submit an event registration on their group DeHub page.
Once this has been submitted, OSI will contact the organization to confirm host liquor liability has been procured.
OSI then approves, denies, or requests more information from the organization.
If approved the following areas will be notified:
OSI will approve or deny the event no later than 2 weeks prior to the event.
Once approved, the student organization will be required to have risk management and event prep meeting with Public Safety, Chartwells, OSI, and Student Centers prior to the event.
There are several required costs associated with hosting an event with alcohol on-campus. These include:
One bartender is required per per 100 guests
The cost is $200 per bartender, per event.
On the Lincoln Park Campus the cost is $152 per security officer, per event and will be booked through Student Centers.
The range for the Loop Campus is $132-$168 per security officer, per event and will be booked through Public Safety.
The cost of Host Liquor Liability Insurance varies depending on several elements of the event. A typical event ranges from $100-$600.
If your organization is affiliated with a national organization, you may contact them to see if their insurance includes Liquor Liability for your organization as well. If so, you will be asked to provide a COI with DePaul listed as an additional insured.

If a student organization wishes to host an event with alcohol off-campus, below are the steps they must follow.
4 weeks prior to the event, the student organization must submit an event registration on their group DeHub page.
Once event registration has been submitted, OSI will contact the organization to confirm host liquor liability insurance has been procured.
OSI will meet with the Student Organization leadership to discuss risk management and safety at the event.
OSI will approve or deny event no later than 2 weeks prior to the event.
