Mission
14 East is a collaborative of DePaul students cultivating an interest in a wide array of subjects from politics to literature to culture. From this magazine, readers can find unique perspectives on issues pertinent to young adults in Chicago. We aim to humanize the issues that are attracting attention in the social atmosphere.

The free exchange of ideas is crucial to the mission of any university tasked with education. The free and independent press, it follows, are a necessity for our school, and having more than one outlet certainly couldn't hurt. However, 14 East is not simply a soap box from which the loudest voices may prevail: our magazine has made a concerted effort in its first few months of active publication to shine a light on stories that would otherwise go untold, giving a voice and platform to those who cannot speak for themselves. When it comes to planning the future for the magazine -- our next lineup, month or year -- there is only one question we need ask ourselves: what must be done? With that mindset as our guide, our goal of humanizing our subjects is not met when we put their picture on our website; only when we've captured their actual dignity can we say that we've done our job. Someone once said that a journalist's job is to comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable. The staff at 14 East aims to do exactly that.

We will achieve this with programming, advocacy work, and through the community we create together. Accessible Futures DePaul works to serve and bring attention to the disabled population on campus. Accessible Futures DePaul is by disabled students for disabled students and bridges the gap between disability and campus life. The purpose of the ANKLE organization is to develop student knowledge regarding the various professions in podiatric medicine. It is designed to encourage students with the hopes of becoming of doctor of podiatric medicine and illustrate the admission process through seminars, guest speakers, workshops, and community service opportunities. All of these opportunities will effectively prepare students to enter into the podiatry school application process with substantial background knowledge of the field and opportunities available. This club will also work to improve students with the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and commitment necessary to enter medicine as a doctor of podiatry, to one day care for the healthcare needs of their patients.

The mission of Blue Demon Theatre is to inspire all DePaul students to be active theatre makers in the Chicago area.

Taken from DePaul Mission "Core Values" Access to Higher Education: We believe everyone has something to contribute to theatre, even if they have not been a part of theatre before. Every member has a unique artistic and musical background that they bring to the table. By offering roles that support first time performers, directors, writers, and technical members, we break down barriers to access theatre broadly. We also break barriers within DePaul, as performance opportunities at the School of Music and The Theatre School only include students within those schools, and even students within those schools are facing reduced opportunities due to budget cuts, and are not able pursue Musical Theatre. This highly relevant field of theatre falls in between both of these schools, and is therefore covered by neither. We see two gaps: non-Major access to theatre, and all student access to Musical Theatre. We truly believe we are filling these gaps in DePaul's academic offering for our members as we provide all students at DePaul with access to high-quality, pre-professional theatre. Community and Collaboration: Theatre is interdisciplinary. With countless specialties in fields of performance, direction, tech, and production, we are challenged not only to be good in our own specialty, but to make our unique skills fit into a team of people who all think and create differently. Our one common responsibility is to be an effective communicator of our field to make it accessible to our teammates. We also foster community by sharing stories and bringing the broader community together through shared passion and fan-favorite shows that highlight the identities and experiences of others.

Hope for the Homeless is dedicated to advocating for and providing direct support to Chicago’s unhoused community. We are committed to taking concrete actions toward ending homelessness in the city. Every quarter we host either a book swap or clothing swap in which all leftover clothing or books are donated to the houseless or children in need. CHAARG aims to ignite a passion in college-aged girls for health + fitness. Too many college girls rely solely on the elliptical for their exercise. CHAARG liberates girls from the elliptical + shows them that fitness can [+ SHOULD] be fun! Since every girl has a different preference of what fun is, we create opportunities for our CHAARG girls to “find their fit.”
Once a girl joins CHAARG, she is welcomed into a supportive + empowering community of 10,000+ girls! CHAARG combines good friends + a good workout to keep every girl feeling her happiest + healthiest self.

DePaul Doctor Who Club is an inclusive space for fans of the British Sci-fi series Doctor Who to meet, discuss episodes, hear from guest speakers, learn about the making of the series, watch and listen to content, and discuss the series. On the surface, DePaul Doctor Who celebrates a television series that has the exact same philosophy. The Doctor believes that every life is valuable (even his enemies!) and that there is goodness in everything. As he says, “The way I see it, every life is a pile of good things and bad things. Mock trial's mission is to give students early experience in legal procedures, and a comprehensive, first-hand look at what law looks like in practice. Even if students aren't interested in law specifically, skills and experiences acquired can be important for history, sociology, anthropology, political science, or other subjects that intersect with the law. Mock Trial will teach students invaluable skills that are directly applicable to their academic and personal pursuits. Students who participate gain analytical skills from analyzing cases and facts; as well as how to compose effective arguments and respond to questions or disputes. These kind of abilities are extremely useful in college-level writing and discussions in general. We are DePaul PRSSA, the only public relations (PR) pre-professional group on campus, but we’re open to all communications, marketing, journalism, and advertising majors. PRSSA is helpful at any point in your college career whether you’re a freshman or senior. We host meetings and events throughout the quarter where we bring in professionals from the many disciplines of PR from non-profit to big agencies. We also host social events and agency tours where we take students directly into some of the most sought-after employers. Additionally, we have hosted PRSSA’s Midwest District Conference for more than 10 years, bringing in students from all over the country to DePaul. Overall, we are the organization for any PR major because we regularly provide educational panels, hold workshops on resumes and job applications, and also provide opportunities to network with professionals and PR peers. We do this all through socially responsible leadership and follow the Vincentian values of our institution.

DePaul PRSSA supports the development of students through avenues such as networking and professional relations through academics, and community engagement. PRSSA specifically prepares students within, but not limited to, the communication field to be successful. PRSSA upholds the ethic of the Vincentian mission's commitment to personalism and professionalism, to compassionately uphold the dignity of all members of its diverse, multi-faith, and inclusive community. For an example of how we put the mission into practice, we know that DePaul's commitment to inclusion and the development of all students means that student retention is very important. DePaul PRSSA helps with that effort. DePaul's award-winning framework, “The 4 P’s of Student Retention”, includes the pillar of “Promise” – that “all students' experiences in and out of the classroom fulfill the promise of a DePaul education.” DePaul PRSSA has helped contribute to the fulfillment of that promise with our dues-erships, alumni involvement, internship facilitating and networking/relationship building with local professionals. This includes many of the events that have been hosted on campus from May of 2023 to April of 2024. On February 22nd and 23rd, DePaul PRSSA hosted the Midwest District Conference, PRess Play. The conference utilized the spaces at the DePaul Loop Campus, which allowed 125+ students from 20 universities across the country to interact with the DePaul public relations and advertising (PRAD) program (plus 22 agencies or corporations participating in our programming – overall more than 130 professionals were involved). This raises awareness of DePaul University's graduate programs among students from other universities and heightens the reputation of DePaul's PRAD program among industry professionals. We routinely receive positive feedback on our programming and members' professionalism from participating professionals. After this year's conference, we heard anecdotally about several students applying to our College's award-winning PRAD masters program.

The DePaul Urban Gardeners are on a mission to change the world! We are grateful to have a wonderful space to create community through the wonders of gardening. Teaching and learning happens at every meeting! At DUG, we cultivate a community of care, peace, and love, while also eating delicious and nutritious fruits and vegetables! Every person, gardener or non gardener, has a place at DUG!

DUG upholds this and more. We promote environmental activism, address food insecurity, and give students a space to connect with nature and use their hands. Learning about gardening helps us to benefit the community and ourselves by providing naturally and locally sourced produce, and this is nothing more but an equitable solution to people in Chicago dealing with food insecurity and limited access to healthy fruits and vegetables. We advocate for environmental connection and education, and do what must be done to ensure students learn about the calming activity of gardening.

DePaul University Chapter of Global Brigades is a student led group that supports Global Brigades in the implementation of a holistic model to meet the health and economic goals of rural communities in six different countries. Along with other GMB Chapters on campus as well as Chapters at other universities, our Chapter participates in year-round recruitment, fundraising, and awareness events that ultimately result in our participation in a 7-9 day brigade, where we actively participate in programming (e.g., Medical, Dental, Public Health, Water, Engineering, Legal Empowerment, Business).

The purpose of the organization is to supply the most comfortable space possible for students. Any and all people are welcome to join and attend. I believe mindfulness as a whole is very important to the human mind and I want to share that with other people, share it with students. Meditation is a step into mindfulness and allows us to be still in the midst of the world working around us. It allows us to create some space between us, and our thoughts letting us be at ease with them. I believe this is of great importance for working students and I want to offer a safe space for them. This club would consist of exploration of being mindful and how to practice it in everyday life, guided meditations by me or my online meditation teacher I use, and just providing a safe area to talk about feelings or emotions for anyone who needs a space to do so. This club would explore practices of Buddhism due to the teacher I use, but this club wouldn't be considered a religious one. Anyone can be a Buddha in their own life and ground themselves in the Earth we all live on. It does not need to be considered a Buddhist club, but a club for Buddha's. (I can also go into depth about what mediation and mindfulness truly are and the practices that help one reach awakening in one's own life when needed). This club will also be exploring Buddhist Psychology which is simply understanding how the mind works and how to deal with it, though acceptance of the everlasting truth of the world. Anyone is able to join this club and share their thoughts freely. It aligns with DePaul's mission and values because this can provide a community of students with a space to settle with outside worries and experiences in life outside of school to have space to succeed in classes and do what must be done.

This club is an academic environment where students can learn about mindfulness and also gain a sense of community and connection. It is a peaceful space and open to everyone.

Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) is a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and community members, organized on democratic principles to promote justice, human rights, liberation, and self-determination for the Palestinian people. As an advocacy group, SJP is committed to a core set of principles to which it expects its members to adhere. SJP believes that while the Palestinian people must ultimately be able to decide their future in Palestine, certain key principles, grounded in international law, human rights, and basic standards of justice, will be fundamental to a just resolution of the plight of the Palestinians. These include the full decolonization of all illegally held Palestinian lands; the end of the Israeli occupation of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank; including East Jerusalem; the implementation of the right of return and repatriation for all Palestinian refugees to their original homes and properties; and an end to the Israeli system of Apartheid and discrimination against the indigenous Palestinian population. Just as SJP condemns the racism and discrimination underlying the policies and laws of the state of Israel, SJP rejects any form of hatred or discrimination against any religious, racial, or ethnic group. SJP's strength is in the great diversity of its membership. SJP welcomes individuals of all ethnic and religious backgrounds to join in solidarity with the struggle for justice in Palestine.

The Vietnamese Club at DePaul University seeks to promote a deeper understanding, appreciation, and celebration of Vietnamese culture among participants and the larger university community. To do so, our club has a threefold mission:
Cultural celebration: to honor and celebrate Vietnam’s rich heritage through culturally oriented events, festivals, and traditional holidays. We seek to provide an avenue for students of Vietnamese descent, and others interested in Vietnamese culture, to come together and express their cultural identity in a way that fosters pride and continuity of the culture.
Education: To enhance the academic and social experience of our participants, we offer Vietnamese language classes and workshops, as well as information on other aspects of Vietnamese culture, including history, art, and food. We will also discuss relevant modern-day topics, promoting academic achievement and cultural competence, by expanding the global mindset of student members
Wellness and Mental Health Resources: Provide resources and workshops on mental health, stress management, and self-care, with a focus on addressing the unique challenges international students might face, especially Vietnamese students. Partnering with campus wellness centers to ensure international students have access to culturally sensitive support services is key.
