Updates from the Councils!
This section will provide an opportunity for our 4 Governing Councils to provide community wide updates of things they are working on throughout the Quarter.
Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) :
Currently, MGC is working to rebuild how our council operates, with the goal of elevating our professionalism, and prestige. By doing so we hope to empower and encourage the members of our council to increase multicultural fraternity and sorority visibility on campus. While we are still in the process of developing and reforming our ideas, we have made many small strides toward this goal. If you have any general questions or want to connect, reach out to Shayla Garcia via email mgcpresident.depaul@gmail.com.
Interfraternity Council (IFC):
The IFC is currently focusing on administrative tasks, such as overlooking bylaws for the coming Spring Quarter. If anyone has any questions, they can always contact ifc@depaul.edu.
National Pan-Hellenic Council (NPHC):
Many of our Council's leadership attended AFLV Central featuring the National Black Greek Leadership Conference in early February. Our chapters have been busy this quarter with various community service events, hosting Founder's weeks and game nights, and preparing for Spring Quarter. For more information about NPHC, people can reach out to nphc@depaul.edu.
Panhellenic Council (PHC):
Panhellenic is currently working on updating the bylaws to help ensure greater understanding in the community. They are also brainstorming ways to make general body meetings more interactive to get more delegates and members to engage with one another! There are a lot of philanthropy weeks currently happening for Panhellenic sororities and the money they are raising for such good causes! You can reach out to Panhellenic at DePaul.panhel@gmail.com!
Get to Know Your FSL Leaders!
This section will feature different leaders in our FSL Community.
Name: Jocelyn Torres-Barbosa Year at DePaul: Senior Organization: Alpha Psi Lambda National, Inc. Current Leadership Role: Chapter President Favorite thing about DePaul: My favorite thing about DePaul is the community. I’m so grateful to have found mine early on in my college career. DePaul has so many different groups and spaces to offer so it’s up to you to pick which ones you like the best. You hear everywhere and it is so true. From the cultural centers to different hangout spots on campus to even different campus org meet ups, there’s so many places to find people.
Why you joined FSL: I joined FSL because of the people. I came into college, not knowing what it was or even thinking I would join. Walking around that involvement fair my first year on campus was the best thing I could’ve done for myself. I could also just tell it was different than an actual club. People in FSL care not just now but forever.
Why you chose to be a leader in FSL: I chose to be a leader in FSL because of those before me. I am a big believer in leading by example and by being a leader in FSL, it gave me the opportunity to do so. I also wanted to be part of the reason why FSL can be so great. Being a leader looks different to everyone and having these different qualities makes us better together. I wanted to contribute to that.
