About Us
This organization seeks to facilitate bilingual speech language pathology student involvement, engagement and leadership development in order to advance the awareness, sensitivity and competence of bilingual issues in the field of speech language pathology. Additionally, it is the mission of this organization to promote initiatives pertaining to bilingual speech language pathology students through a social and professional platform whereby students can interact and collaborate. The Bilingual SLP Student for Diversity and Inclusion (BSSDI) organization was founded as an extension of DePaul University's commitment to education and its dedication to supporting underserved and underrepresented communities. BSSDI provides a specialized framework for empowering bilingual students in the field of speech-language pathology while fostering a safe and inclusive environment that promotes the growth of diversity and inclusion. Guided by DePaul's Vincentian values, BSSDI emphasizes leadership, collaboration, and cultural competence. It strives to equip bilingual speech-language pathology students with the skills to provide culturally responsive care, understand the importance of interprofessional collaboration, and develop as future leaders committed to driving meaningful change. Through these efforts, BSSDI aims to prepare its members to deliver the highest quality care to the patients they will serve.
