Welcome everybody to the new academic year! Just like that, summer’s over, and now it’s back to classes, papers, group projects, and all that fun stuff (yay...). It’s not all doom and gloom, I, for one, am excited to start classes. Yes, I am a huge nerd with glasses.
Before we get too far, I’d like to introduce myself: my name is Travis (he, him, his), and I’m the new Graduate Assistant at the Black Cultural Center! I’m getting my Master’s in Cybersecurity, and this is my first year at DePaul University; it’s also my first time in Chicago (apparently, connecting flights from O’Hare airport don’t count).
I’m Nigerian, coming from a little “city” in Central Virginia where the only things to do were church and Dollar Tree, so you can imagine how happy I am to be in an actual city with genuine things to do.
I could go on and on about how interesting and cool and handsome I am, but that’s not our focus — the first day of class is upon us, and DePaul’s departments and student organizations have come out in full force to greet us with a plethora of events and activities to mark the start of the year! - Travis
