Welcome to Mesa's first Newsletter!
We are so excited for you to be part of our new project. We will be introducing the newsletter, detailing past events, mentioning incoming activities for everyone, highlighting Mesa's and DePaul's news alongside recommendations, original features from our members, sharing resources, and the latest chisme. We hope this is an opportunity for connection and engagement.

Welcoming the Winter Quarter and Updates
2024 has started and so has a new quarter. This new year has brought many changes, in Chicago, in DePaul, and our community.
First, we would like to remind everyone that course carts will open on Thursday, February 8. Make sure to grab the classes you need and have backups in case they close. Make sure to contact your advisor in case you have any questions and look at Rate My Professor for good and honest reviews about potential classes.
Moving forward, Mesa has quite some activities planned for this quarter. Below you'll see the recap of one of our events and a small sneak peek of the incoming ones. Check our socials and stay updated!
¿Qué Pasó en Trivia Night?
Things sure got competitive in our past event. Shoutout to all our members who were able to come to our first event of the winter quarter!
Trivia Night ¿Quién eres tú? Was a Jeopardy-style game where groups had the chance to pick from different categories. These ranged from knowing the names and roles of different Mesa e-board members, Latin American pop culture, Spanish knowledge, and more! The group with the most points would win.
¡Únete a Mesa's Potluck!
Food is one of the best ways to bring people together and MESA's potlucks are the community's favorite. This is our way to honor and celebrate the places we come from. Sharing a piece of our heritage, connecting with others, and trying new dishes and flavors. Show us what is your comfort food!
Even if you don't have the time to cook or bake something, don't feel discouraged to still come. Mesa appreciates everyone who shows up and is present. A great time and full happy stomachs are guaranteed.
We would love to have you in our next newsletter! MESA is looking for anyone willing to contribute a piece of writing. Have an essay you're proud of? Do you have an amazing poem lying around? Is there a global issue you'd love to spread awareness to? Do you have a professor or course you enjoyed that you would love to recommend?
We are looking for submissions in the following categories:
- Academics (poems, essays, professor/course recs)
- Entertainment (album reviews, artist spotlight, etc.)
- News (global issues, local issues, awareness, etc.)
- Reviews (cafes, restaurants, events, etc.)
Kali Uchis devours with the release of her fourth studio album, Orquideas, delivering another versatile album through her stellar storytelling. The bilingual album contains collaborations with artists Peso Pluma, Karol G, Rauw Alejandro, JT, and EL Alfa. From contemporary pop to reggaeton and merengue Kali Uchis amazes us with her genre versatility in both English and Spanish. Orquideas placed #2 on the Billboard 200 Chart, her highest album peak yet. The critically acclaimed album is a great follow-up to her previous album, Red Moon in Venus.

Eydie Gormé - Canta En Español Con Los Panchos 5/5

February being the month of love and friendship, talented Eydie Gormé and her songs cannot be missed. Honoring her talent and music, this collection of bolero songs have been used by many to dedicate and declare their love to their significant others. Gormé partenered with the Mexican trio Los Panchos and delivered a beautiful love song collection that has trascended through time.
Notable tracks: Cuando Vuelva A Tu Lado, Sabor A Mí, Piel Canela.
MESA Event Calendar
Looking for volunteer work?
The Meet Me At The Mission Program hosts a monthly outing to Catholic Charities near La Salle. Students and staff members travel to the food pantry program and help serve meals to folks experiencing homelessness, housing, food insecurity, and recently arrived migrant families.
The next outing will be on February 13th from 3:45 to 6 PM. There will be more throughout the quarter in March and Spring Quarter. For more information visit MMATM's socials and DeHub page for registration.
Spring Break Service Immersions
Not sure what you will do for spring break? How about traveling somewhere new? Service Immersions are still accepting applications. Groups of students will travel to do different volunteer work in many locations such as Alabama, Indiana, and New Orleans. This experience looks great on a resume and opens many doors to scholarships. For more information, you can visit the Vincentians in Action profile on Instagram and get in contact.
