From: Ariana Salgado Date: September 16 Subject: A new year with MESA!
Dear First_Name,
Welcome Back!☀️
We are so excited to kick off this new academic year with our first monthly newsletter! Our MESA Executive Board members have been working over the summer to curate events on campus for our fellow students. We are dedicated to providing you all with resources on campus, update on any events happening, and fun pop culture that you may be interested in. 🙈
Involvement Fair
We were recently tabling at the Lincoln Park and Loop Involvement Fair! Did you stop by? MESA was able to successfully present our mission and values as an organization on campus through both fairs. We were able to meet new incoming students, and upperclassmen alike, that are looking for community here on campus. A successful tabling if you ask me! 😁
Although both campuses are different, we want all students to know we're here to continue building a community on campus.🌹
New Year: New E-Board🎉
Let's welcome our new E-board for the year! Check out our Instagram page to read about each member, and what they're most excited for the academic year.
Latin Mafia is an indie group made up by 3 brothers, Milton, Emilio, and Mike De la Rosa. Twin brothers, Milton and Emilio, are the vocalists and their older brother, Mike, works on the production side. I had the amazing opportunity to see them live at Lollapalooza in 2025, and the experience was like no other. I was already a fan, but their live perfomance set everything in stone for me. This song focuses on a lost emotional connection, and the melancholic feeling of remembering what was lost. Although a sad song, the beat and vocals make the song enjoyable to listen to. If this listen was not your cup of tea, I encourage you to try out their other songs as they have a diverse discography!
BbY WOW
Karol G Ft. Judeline and rusowsky
This song has taken over on social media and radio stations. Karol G came out with a new album called "NO ME ARREPIENTO SENTIR TANTO" that features her massive hit, BbY WOW. This song focuses on the feeling of missing someone who was once with you, followed by an upbeat song for listeners to still dance. Karol G understands the longing for someone while hurting from their lacking presence, which is an emotion many people go through after a breakup or "situationship". It's interesting to see how many Latine songs have sad lyrics, but contain upbeat danceable instrumentals. "BbY WOW" has rightfully taken over platforms and radio stations with its addictive beat, relatable lyrics, and by being sung by the amazing Karol G.
Thanks for tuning into this month's newsletter! Make sure to check out our upcoming event, Latine Trivia Night, happening September 22nd from 5 PM - 6 PM at the Latinx Cultural Center (O'Connell Hall Room 360). 💌
Keep a look out next month for a new update on what's going on, any event updates, and fun pop culture!💘
