This event introduces students to Algerian Zellige, a traditional mosaic tile art known for its intricate geometric patterns, vibrant colors, and strong presence in North African architecture. Rooted in history, Zellige reflects both artistic creativity and mathematical precision, often symbolizing balance, unity, and cultural identity. We’re hosting this event to highlight Algerian culture in a hands-on and meaningful way, while giving students the chance to engage with traditions that are often overlooked. After learning about its origins and basic techniques, students will create their own Zellige inspired tile, allowing them to experience the detail and patience behind the craft. Along the way, they can enjoy snacks, connect with others, and leave with both a unique piece of art and a deeper appreciation for the culture behind it.
