Flowers for Dad is a short performance event performance by Dusty Goltz, Vincent de Paul Professor of Communication and Performance Studies. The event opens with a 40-minute solo work exploring how traditional models of “men” are taught to speak, stay silent, love, and grieve in US culture. Blending personal narrative, popular culture, and storytelling, the performance examines masculine communication, the complex bond between fathers and sons, and what masculinity looks like in this cultural moment. Through a blend of humor and drama, this intimate piece invites audiences to reflect on what is inherited, what is withheld, and how masculinity is framed and constrained in our relationships.
