It can be overlooked how our historical figures in African American history has grounded themselves in radical healing. What practices did historical figures utilize during the most gruesome, violent moments in history? Dr. Stephanie Y. Evans is a Professor of Black Women's Studies in the Institute for Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies (WGSS) and affiliate faculty of Africana Studies (AAS) at Georgia State University. She served twelve consecutive years as department chair at Georgia State University, Clark Atlanta University, and University of Florida. Dr. Evans is the author of several titles related to Black women's intellectual history including Black Women’s Yoga history: Memoirs of Inner Peace (Suny, 2021) and the forthcoming book Black Feminist Writing: A Practical Guide to Writing (Suny, 2024). This virtual event will be a conversation about historical figures and their hope filled, healing self-care practices of meditation, solitary thinking and writing, and Yoga, among others. Dr. Stephanie Y. Evans is the author of Black Women’s Yoga history: Memoirs of Inner Peace.
