Summary
A small immigration law firm in the Loop is seeking a part-time law clerk interested in immigration law. This firm offers a great opportunity to learn about the application of immigration law in various jurisdictions through research. Applicants must be willing to start in mid-August 2020. This job can be done virtually during the fall if necessary.
Responsibilities and Duties
· Research, analyze and synthesize case law in legal memorandum for the annual updates of a published immigration law practitioner handbook and criminal - immigration law treatise.
· Locate policy memoranda, practice advisories and reports concerning developments in immigration law.
- Assist attorneys in smaller research projects as needed (e.g., locate condition conditions reports, identify elements of criminal state laws).
Qualifications and Skills
· Current law student (2L, or 3L willing to work through bar preparation preferred)
· Interest and background in immigration law
· Knowledge of Westlaw and LexisNexis Advance research techniques
· Conduct research outside of legal databases
· Self-motivated and detail-oriented
· Able to work independently to meet deadlines
· Availability to work 16-20 hours per week (hours may be used to earn externship credit), with flexibility around final exam periods
- May be extended as a full-time position for the summer of 2021
