Ahmed Kouta traveled to Gaza shortly before the genocide started in October 2023 to complete his master's thesis in nursing and defend his thesis on administrative problems among nurses at Al-Shifa Medical Complex.
During the Gaza genocide, Kouta began volunteering in the emergency unit at Al-Shifa Hospital, the largest medical complex in Gaza, treating numerous patients, many of whom were children. The hospital later came under siege, forcing its evacuation. Despite the dangers, Kouta continued providing medical care, moving from household to another treating injuries.
