This is an interactive, hands-on workshop designed for all students in all majors, whether you are a freshman just starting your journey, a senior graduating this academic year, a graduate student needing to refresh your perspective and value proposition, or an alumnus in transition.
We will do real work: as individuals, in collaboration in small peer groups, and share experiences, challenges, and best practices across participants. All examples used will feature current DePaul students and alumni. The session runs from 9:30 AM to 3:00 PM with an agenda including:
• Self-Assessment: answering the question “Who am I and what are my strengths, purposes, and interests?”
• Academic and Career Planning: answering the question “What academic and career paths are the best fit for me?”
• Resumes and Cover Letters: answering the question “How do I write my story, value proposition, and objectives?”
• Elevator Pitch: answer the question “how do you summarize my value proposition?”
• LinkedIn: answering the question “How do I promote my story, value proposition, and objectives?”
• Networking: answering the question “How do I initiate and build relationships?”
• Internship / Job Search: answering the question "How do I decide which companies and roles to pursue and how to get noticed?"
• Interviewing: answering the question “How do I tell my story, value proposition, and objectives?”
• Internship/Job offers: answering your question “How do I successfully negotiate for what’s most important to me?”
Pizza and salads will be provided for lunch. Please feel free to bring your own breakfast foods and beverages. Please also bring your laptop or tablet, if available, along with some paper and a pencil or pen to complete the work we will do together.
