@grok did that just happen?
The rumors are true! Zohran Mamdani has been elected as the mayor of New York City! Despite the neoliberal establishment's best efforts, Zohran secured the race by a whopping 1,036,051 votes, becoming the first Muslim and second socialist mayor of NYC!
(shoutout David Dinkins)
A win is a win, and while we're all celebrating this moment of hope, I want to remind us that the fight is NOT over! DSA'ers have our work cut out for us, not only in securing other campaigns across the country, but also in ensuring that Zohran's DSA Mayorality is successful, sincere, and above all - truly socialist!
Meanwhile, in the Windy City
YDSA DePaul has secured 2,454 Signatures for our Sanctuary Campus Campaign!
"Wait, wasn't our goal 2,500 by Halloween?" Well - kinda. We started the year with a goal of 1,000 by Halloween - and very quickly surpassed that! Now, we're only 46 signatures away from our expanded goal. The fact is, our campaign is popular enough to double our original benchmark goal and then some! We're still going to be working through the end of the quarter to get the word out about the Sanctuary Campaign, DSA, and Socialism at DePaul so we can get as much support as possible!
We're excited to see so much energy from the student body for a campaign like this!
It seems there's a spectre haunting DePaul...
While it's exciting to be on campus, I also encourage everyone to get involved with neighborhood and citywide DSA events!
Check out [Chicago DSA's calender] to find a branch meeting or meetup near you, and stay tapped in on all of Chicago DSA's citywide happenings!
If you're a commuter baddie and live in the #burbs, check out the [West Suburban Illinois DSA Calender] and see where you can get involved - suburbanly.
This Week for YDSA DePaul
The YDSA DePaul Steering Committee spent Wednesday evening in the Dorothy Day room plotting. Some might even say... scheming? Point is, lots of stuff was done! We're vibing out the end of the quarter, and hyping ourselves up for the work that will done over (then after) winter break! The end of the quarter is nearing, and we only have 2 working group meetings left!
If you've been waiting to get involved, now's the time!

We have a world (and a campaign) to win!
YDSA and DSA have been racking up wins this week, and I hope we can carry that with us for the remainder of our campaign! However (I cannot stress this enough) we wouldn't have made it this far without EVERYONE'S HARD WORK!!
This year has been an absolute blast with the ammount of people we've brought on board, the hard work you've all accomplished, and the road we've paved for ourselves! I'm so thankful for everyone who has devoted time to building socialism at DePaul, in Chicago, and in the world. You're doing amazing things and putting in crazy hard work, and I cannot believe how far our chapter has come in the past year.
I can't wait to hit the ground running next quarter to show DePaul, ICE, and the Fascists in DC what we can do!
Truly, from the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU ALL!! I can't wait to see what we can accomplish together!!!
In solidarity,
Aris Taşhan
