From Fine to Reform: How U.S. Firms Responded to AI Errors
U.S. law firms have been hit with sanctions after filing motions containing fake AI citations—Morgan & Morgan lawyers were fined up to $3,000, while K&L Gates faced $31,000 in penalties. These incidents spurred reforms: mandatory AI training, firm-wide “AI playbooks,” and stricter supervision. Regulators are also tightening oversight, with courts striking AI-tainted filings. To adapt, firms are turning to tools like NexLaw, which verifies citations, builds audit trails, and ensures attorney oversight—helping transform AI from a liability into a trusted legal asset.
Uber Faces DOJ Lawsuit Over Disability Discrimination
The Justice Department has sued Uber, alleging violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act. The complaint claims Uber drivers routinely refused rides to disabled passengers, charged cleaning fees for service animals, and imposed cancellation fees—acts the DOJ says break federal law. The lawsuit seeks $125 million in damages, a civil penalty, and court-ordered policy changes with mandatory driver training. Uber denies wrongdoing, citing a zero-tolerance policy for service denials and measures such as driver reminders, permanent bans for violators, and a hotline for reporting accessibility issues.
As always, if you have any questions please feel free to reach out!
Thank you,
