Dear [FIRST_NAME],

Winter Quarter 2026 events flyer

Welcome Back! Let’s Make Winter Quarter Shine!

We hope your break was restful, joyful, and full of moments that helped you recharge—because Winter Quarter is officially here, and we’re excited to step into it together.

As we begin this new academic quarter, we look forward to reconnecting, building community, and continuing the shared work of learning, teaching, and growing alongside one another. Whether you’re returning to familiar routines or starting something new, this quarter is full of possibility.

✨ Let’s kick off Winter Quarter with culture, collaboration, and creativity for one another—join us in making it a great start!

1/28 sankofa game

January 28 at 4p
LPSC Rm, 314 AB

Join us for an interactive gaming experience, where the audience will demonstrate and celebrate the power of family, ancestral connections, and storytelling. Developed by Professor Allen Turner of the School of Design, the audience is invited to discuss how the past has a purpose today. This event continues in the yearly theme of “Black Imagination: At the Intersection of Blackness, Music, Magic and Creativity” at the Center for Black Diaspora.

2-25 Dr. Corey Miles

February 25 at 4p
LPSC Rm, 314 AB

The Center for Black Diaspora is excited to host an event featuring discussing the theme of Black Imagination with Dr. Corey Miles. Dr. Miles is an ethnographer of the Black American South and an assistant professor in the Department of Sociology and Department of Africana Studies at Tulane University and the author of Vibe: The Sound and Feeling of Black Life in the American South. He provides a rich narration of a region whose music incites powerful re-clamations of the soul, modes of creativity, and a radical imagination into the power of emotion. This event is a part of an ongoing series for the Center to discuss and celebrate themes in the recent film, "Sinners." We hope you can join us for this impactful conversation!

2/20 Yvonne Chireau

February 25 at 4p
LPSC Rm, 314 AB

Join us for a powerful conversation about African spiritual resilience, redemption, and history led by Dr. Yvonne P. Chireau. As a scholar with interests that are rooted in spiritual pluralism in the United States, as well as topics concerning the theoretical and practical intersections of religion and magic, Dr. Chireau brings a perspective of ancestral tradition necessary to the survival of the African spirit. This event continues in the yearly theme of “Black Imagination: At the Intersection of Blackness, Music, Magic and Creativity” at the Center for Black Diaspora. We hope you can join us!
